3 minor sisters raped, killed and bodies dumped in well in Maharashtra village
Three minor sisters were allegedly raped and murdered at Murwadi village in neighbouring Bhandara district, police said today.
The
bodies of the girls, all below 11 years and missing since February 14,
were found in a well in their native village on February 16 and a
complaint in this regard was lodged by their family on February 17.
Though
police initially registered a case of accidental death, postmortem
conducted yesterday at Bhandara confirmed sexual abuse and murder,
police said, adding the case was registered under relevant sections of
IPC against unidentified persons.
Irate villagers today staged a protest against the ghastly incident and blocked traffic for some time.
Meanwhile,
senior NCP leader and Union minister Praful Patel today demanded a
thorough probe into the incident and trial before a fast track court.
He was speaking to media after meeting the bereaved family members at Murwadi.
Demanding capital punishment to the accused, Patel said the kin of the victim be given adequate compensation.
Patel represents the Bhandara-Gonida parliamentary constituency in this east Maharashtra district.
Meanwhile, Lakahani police station in-charge Prakash Munde has been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
Senior police officials including SP Aarti Singh and IG (Nagpur range) Rajendra Singh are camping in Lakhni village.
The
numbing atrocity was committed on poor helpless girls aged 11, 8, and
6. They had gone missing on February 14 after they did not return home
from school.
Two days later their bodies were found in a well near Murmadi village in Lakhani town of Bhandara district. The well is near a farmhouse and a dhaba, about half a kilometre from the village. Their tiny slippers were found next to empty liquor bottles.
NAGPUR: The police investigation into the rape and murder of three minor sisters at Murmadi village in Bhandara district of Maharashtra has not made a headway even after a fortnight.
The post-mortem report had said that the girls, aged six, nine and eleven years, were raped and murdered. However, sources close to the investigation claim that they were not raped.
A recent forensic analysis report also showed that the girls were neither strangulated nor poisoned but failed to pinpoint the cause of the deaths.
Bhandara superintendent of police Dr Arti Singh could not be contacted for confirmation of these reports.
Some reports suggest that the fatherless girls – mother works a domestic help and was away from home - driven by hunger had gone out to look for food and fell into a trap.
A news agency claimed that the autopsy reports suggest that the minor girls were subjected to unnatural sex.
The savagery meted out to the girls led to huge protests in the region with people taking to the streets to demand action against the culprits.
A manhunt has been launched against the unknown perpetrators. As per unconfirmed reports, two suspects have been detained; official confirmation is awaited.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the incident was "extremely deplorable and painful".
"The incident is extremely deplorable and painful. I appeal to the people to maintain calm and cooperate with the law-enforcers," Chavan said in a statement.
Chavan also announced ex-gratia relief of Rs.10 lakh to the family of three minor sisters
Home Minister RR Patil had earlier announced the suspension of Prakash Munde, chief of the Lakhni police station, under whose jurisdiction the crime was committed.
